Free Genuine Super 8mm Grain Overlay

A while back I had shot some test footage on Super 8mm kodak film. It was great fun and you can check out the edit here. While I was playing around, I thought it’d be fun to shoot some medium gray to use the scanned footage at authentic grain overlays. That’s exactly what I did! This is REAL grain from an actual film scan, NOT digitally made. I have used this for many of my projects to add a vintage texture to the project. It’s great fun to play around with!

The grain was scanned at full HD 1920x1080 in a 4:3 aspect ratio. However, you could easily duplicate the asset and spread it across a 16:9 timeline! I hope you enjoy this free asset, and it’s yours to use for any of your projects. Let me know what you think of it in the comments. download link is below!

INSTRUCTIONS: Place the “Petro_S8mmGrain422HQ.mov” asset over your footage. Change the transparency to "Overlay". Now add a "Brightness / Contrast" filter to the grain and change the contrast to change the grain amount. You can also add a "Sharpen" filter to add a bit more grain if needed.

NOTE: This asset is 4:3 aspect ratio.
